Hi Visjag,

I've done 3 trips there to fish and dive, and only got in the water properly once.  It is a very fickle area to get clean that close to the rivermouth.  Swell needs to be very flat.

When we did get it clean, it was very clean and flat, and a plesant dive with a lot of species, but nothing big.  All the usual suspects for the area - bream, wilderperd, baardman, parrot, small poensies, galjoen.  I also saw a small leerie and some small yellowbellies.  I was hoping for big fish but didn't even pull the trigger in the end.  There were some solid galjoen around, but we were out of season, and not my favourite eating fish anyway.

It is very tricky to get it clean in Spring, I would guess, but if you get in then you are likely to find some cracker, and there is always the hope of running into a big kob in that area.

It is well worth a visit, though, as it is a spectacular place to stay.  I would just plan to fish, leave my dive kit in the car at the top of the hill, and regard it as a "geluk" if you manage to get in.

Cheers,

Tony

Shot bru. Yeah, will see how things go but thanks for the reply. Any advice for staying at the shack? Extra things to take to make it better?

Lots of Old Brown Sherry :)

Seriously though, it is pretty well kitted, would just take a sharp knife down for filleting fish or other kitchen work.  The big treat there is the huge bonfires you make on teh beach right in front of the shack.  There is loads of driftwood to be found - we burned away that huge log at my feet in the picture - took 3 days, though!

Cheers,

Tony

Check the fishing side for articles on it - most species can be caught here, just depends on conditions & time of year.
