Watching all these videos i see no casting. Is this how one fishes for Barbel on artlure or does one cast from time to time too?

I'm heading off to the vaal river in Parys for the long wkn in August so just want to educate myself correctly with this ned method. My Roepstok and Big Cat Poppers arrived this morning :)

Hi, Generally early morning and late afternoon are good for catfish, but don't be afraid to pop for them after dark as well.

I've caught many big ones in the hours before and after midnight.

80% of my fishing for catfish these days are casting a popper and pumpkin, then dipping technique with loodkoppe (mainly winter) and then calling technique.

Thanks so much for the reply, what is "then dipping technique with loodkoppe (mainly winter)"

Is the term "calling" the ones in the video where you drop the lure with only about 1.5m of line into the water?

When casting a popper or pumpkinseed, is this similar to normal spinning technique one would use for Bass and Shad?

Dipping is when you drop a loodkop or jig onto the whiskers of catfish lying in sun in shallow water in winter from about 10:00 to 15:00 during hot days. Roodeplaat is good for this.

I blanked horribly last months when we were at the river. The weather didn't help either but will give it another go this weekend when we are at the dam again. Weather is looking better this time around.
