Hi guy's, just to let you know I am planning on going out at Strand- blakes on friday morning at about 6.30. This is my attempt to get like minded kayak anglers into a system of communication and getting together to fish. I reside in Kirstenhof and travel to both areas to fish. We got 13 kob between 3 of us on sunday early. The fish were small, 2 to 3 kg ea. We kept some for the table and returned some. The previous weeks I have averaged between 4 and 8 fish per trip, and I have had a few blank day's. My best this season is 5.1 kg and that was a kob. Lots of spotted gullies and smooth hounds and skates.Some up to between 15 and 20 kg. There is lots of good fun to be had on both sides guy's. Rob:kaykak

i have been fishing melkbos for the last month and all we have been catching is white stump,hotties and undersize cob.....time to try knew spots. been to betties bay but also came back empty handed so strand sounds good....where about is blakes? cannot join you friday because i have this silly thing to do that they call work but would like to give it a try on saturday or sunday weather permitting.

Hi there kreef, I work from home so can get away midweek etc to fish. The strand is a big area. Firstly it is a reserve, therefore you have to be minimum of 500 mts out from the high water mark. It is very difficult to measure 500 mts so just be fair in your assessment of where you are anchored that is if you are anchored. There are basically 2 ways to fish the area and that is to troll with small lures for elf and garrick or anchor and try for bottom fish etc etc including elf and kob. There are kayak anglers out every weekend. When you drive into the strand beach area with the many blocks of flats on your left and the beach obviously on your rt, you will come to an area where the reefs start. In this area is a block of flats with the name Melkbaai on the wall. This is the Melkbaai area where a lot of guys fish. The other area is at Blakes hotel where the slipway is situated about a km further on from Melkbaai. I very rarely fish in the immediate vicinity of either area but mostly after launching either paddle up towards Macasser or paddle down towards Gordons bay. It produces good elf of size but you have to be prepared to paddle. I also strike lucky at times with kob etc off the outer reefs! There are a lot of skates and sharks including big bronze whalers and the odd great white!!!:blah:kaykak A 5m white was seen breaching next to the reefs by some reef fishermen so be on your guard at all times, otherwise its a beautiful area to paddle and fish!
thks for the info......weather not looking too good for the weekend on windguru but i will take a ride in any case just for a recce.
i spear fish and dive for kreef rooi els/pringle bay etc so not too concerned about sharky...
just started kayaking and really enjoy it.....good substitute for diving becoz water been crappy for diving and MCM shortens the kreef season every year.
would i be able to contact you for a fishing report and i can do the same for you regarding the west coast report.....melkbos/ganzekraal.

I heard that around that ronck just outside the harbour there were some nice hotties. Not sure it they still there. Nice size hottie on the outside of the harbour wall also.
