Jozini level

Hi all, we are planning a trip to Jozine in mid October. I have now heard a rumour that boating will be restricted on the dam. Are there any truth in this? Thanks

Hi nhunter, yes the dam is only 55% full think the river section is very narrow, but the dam it self will be fine. We are going to fish in the comp, no boat limits yett

NEE ernstig! 55%, waar gaan die mense vang? jinne dit gaan beknop wees veral in die rivier. Ek wil amper sê ek is bly ek gaan nie die jaar nie.

Hi all,
Going on a trip early November to Jozini. Does anyone know we here I can get live bait (besides catching the little buggers myself

Depends if you will be using your own boat or a lodge boat. The guides know where to catch the bait fish.

The shallows in the river section are the best places. With the levels being low take care with your props. Also some big crocs in the river section so be careful.

Legally you may only use fish you have caught in Jozini as live bait, no fish from any other source may be used(brought in), including gold fish. This is for live bait and applies for the whole of KZN.

This is the main river section at Jozini taken from Nkwazi Lodge - in the first pic it is about 4-5m deep where the boat is and 9-10m 200m past the boat!! It was also 2 m deep under the railway bridge in the distance!!

We need close to another Demoina to make a proper impact, Demoina took the dam from around 15% to 85% and in all probability was a 1:100 year flood!! (although it did happen after our last serious drought?? :hnthnt
There is a real fear that it will take a very long time to recover and the lodges/tourism are suffering, Mvubu (Nkwazi's sister lodge) has all but closed and the boat operators are taking strain, estimates are that the dam will go from 42%(current) to around 35% before the rainy season starts again - unless the rains come in earnest the future looks bleak
