This has to be the biggest swimbait attempted.

Go big or go home.

480mm.

This will be a lag.

Who will we get to fish it and on what rod?.

:hyst::hyst::hyst:

Find the centre line of the profile.

It will help on the carving.

Use the original paper template to mark the fins, gills and mouth.

Cut holes, cut pieces off, just use what you have to in order to mark your profile.

Mark the part off lines for the body segments.

It's ready for  further marking, drilling and carving.

I'm off to sleep.

Set up the hinges on top of the blank.

Make sure they all lie on the same plane.

Now you can drill the six holes for each hinge.

Go right through the wood.

When you've got all the holes drilled you can begin shaping the lure body.

I would drill the hinge holes past the countersink taper so you can install larger locating pins.

Mikey are you using one piece of ply or 2 pieces ? ie you putting one 6mm piece either side of hinge then shaping body ??

Mark, I'm learning as I go.

I've never made one before but I thought laying the hinges over the wood and drilling the holes first would allow shaping afterwards.

I figured cutting slots in the body sections with a bandsaw after shaping and parting off would be the easiest.

I don't know what your thoughts are on this?.

I'm only doing this one and that's it.

This is a mission of note, lol.

Windknot, ha ha.

I built the bait to suit the hinges.

Big hinges= big bait.

You're right, I do believe in that maxim as a rule.:)

Semi shaped.

Holes drilled for dowels and scoring is done for future parting off.

Ha ha ha, no Willie, I just made it that big because I only had big hinges.

I don't think we'll use it.

I did it to check if the hinge system works.

JR uses a very complex joint system and I wanted to give the boys a simpler alternative.
