Jetski setup for sea fishing

Hi Guys

Many reqeust from new guys in the sport on what he need for fishing in the sea. First get skippers and seaworthy certificate for ski. You need then a holder or rack for the safety bottle as the safety bottle is a must according to law that contains all the safety equipment.

Many racks are bought now with rod holders affixed to it. they are nice. Now is a new rack available that can take a small baitbox and cutting board. The newest addition is side pods that can contain all the above and fish holders which makes the fishbag redundant. Tauruck you must check to build this I can see that there will be a demand for these sidepods. Check the newest Skiboat Magazine with a Yamaha ski add.

The rest of the setup are as follow: I have two trolling rods which I run in the two rod holders in front of me when trolling I have fitted the rod holders myself. You can do it yourself if I could manage to do it.

The rest of the setup is the safety botlle and cage at the back with rod holders. I have 5 rod holders on the rack where the following is placed: jigging stick, flickstick which I also use for livebait and a gaff. I tie all my rods and gaff down with elastic tiedowns when launching and beaching. I also have a compartment that takes a plastic holder to hold lures and traces.

I have a Garmin 420 S fishfinder GPS combo fixed onto the glovebox lid. The transducer is glued onto the bottom in the engine room. It works excellent for the sounder but the temperature is wrong as it reads the ambient temperature of the engine room. I attach a fishbag on the side of the ski.

Rest follow: My safety bottle cage is only tied with a strap to the back handle. I remove the cage normally when travelling. I have 5 rod holders at the back which will hold the following: gaff, jigging rod, flick stick which I also use to catch livebait with. I have also a place for a tupperware holder of lures and traces that fits tightly on the cage. I tie my rods and gaff with elastic tie downs onto the cage when launching and beaching. I have a Garmin 420S fishfinder and GPS combo which is attached to the lid of the front glove box. I have glued the transducer in the hull. The fishfinder works very well this way only the temperature is not correct as it reads the ambient temperature of the engine room.

Die transducer in die hull werk net so goed as buite. Jy moet net seker maak dat waar jy dit plaas is die glasvesel solied en direk in kontak met die water. Wat lekker is van die transducer daar is dat die kabel of transducer nie makilik beskadig met die op en aflaai van die ski nie. Ek het al n' paar transducers op my boot seer gemaak en vervang agv aflaai in damme met klippe.

JA, self al n paar gebreek op trolling motors,Dis n uitsteekinde manier om dit te beskerm. Sal enige vinder se transducer so werk of net die garmin's?

Die prinsiep waarop n' transducer werk is almal deselfde. Jy behoort enige fishfinder so te kan installeer. Vroeer jare het jy glad nie buite monteerde transducers gekry nie, dit was alles binneboord gemonteer. Die groot geheim van die montering is dat daar moet nie lugblasies tussen die transducer en die hull en water wees nie. Jy kry dan steurings op die finder. Ek skuur gewoonlik die oppervlak met n' fyn skuurpapier glad en gebruik dan Pratleys gom (meng twee buisies met mekaar). Jy sit gom op die onderkant van die transducer en op die oppervlak van die hull. Druk dan die transducer op die hull en beweeg op die oppervlak om seker te maak daar is geen lugblasies en oormatige gom nie. Los dan vir 12 ure en dan is dit" buckjones "

I have a transom mounted transducer. I believe you get a slightly better signal with no hull to go through and I get an accurate temp reading. I made a bracket that fits onto the back folding step mountings and hangs the transducer in the water. Then I remove the one drain plug and run the cable through it so I dont drill any holes in the hull!

Then I fill the gap around the cable in the drain hole with silicone sealer.

You have a nice set up. As you said that it is good to have all the equipment on but you must be able to remove everything if you want to sell the ski one day.

fishing has been a bit quiet,the odd snoek has been coming out  but a good friend of mine just caught a 15kg dorado off his STX

we build everything custom but  around R1300 .We have built some really nice units lately that take scotty,s ,coolerbox,2 capsize bottles and it holds a fishbag so you arent standing on fish the whole day.If you dont have a stable ski and fall off you can release it while in the water to reboard if you cant get on the side

fast kawasaki has also just landed bomber floating polirized sunglasses for fishing from the USA .1 year exchange warranty and the company was founded by a previous jetski racer so they are aimed at our sport ,lots of different styles and colours available
