We left Roodepoort at 05H00 on Thursday 5th and after a uneventful drive arrived at Jeffries bay at 16H45.I arranged to meet my guide Allan at 05H00 on Friday morning for a short session as I was taking my wife and her friend on a canopy tour later in the day.The ladies were attending a scrapbooking function for the weekend and it was an excuse for me to fish.
Allan and I were on the beach early on Friday morning. He asked if there was anything in particular that I wanted to target and I told him sharks on my tackle. We got a mackerel head into the water on my 4-7 ounce DC Oval grinder rod and slid a yellowtail head on my Oval 7 -9 ounce.
After some time the grinder went and I landed a small grey pup.unfortunatly in our haste to get fishing we had left our phones in the bakkie and did not get a photo. At about 9H00 the grinder took a hard knock and the Ultegra 14000 started screaming. After a nice fight I managed to land a 12/15kg smooth hound.A lady who was walking past took some photo's and forwarded them to me.

So After that we called it a day and arranged to meet at 04H00 on Saturday. We were on the Kabeljous beach by 4H20 and had the lines in with mackerel heads again. After a very quite few hours up and down the beach Allan decided we should move to Paradise Beach. When we got there a few guys from WP that Allan knew were fishing and told us the bronzie pups were full up.In went the mackerel head and it was not 5 minutes later that I landed the first of 6.At about 13H00 I cast in a makeral fillet with chokka using my 2-4 ounce Loomis and it was not long that there was a fish on.I landed a nice kabeljoi of about 3.5kg.It became the second fish that I have kept in 15 years.I tasted really good on the braai that night and half came home with us for later consumption

On Sunday we went back to Paradise again and it was really cold. After a quite start my light setup went again and I landed a small shy shark.I was fishing a mackerel fillet/chokka combo the whole morning. After being bitten off I put on a small piece of wire.I landed another 4 small bronzie pups and 3 small shad. The shad all went back in.Therte was rain approaching and we packed up at 15H30 but not before Allan landed a niece Kabeljou of 84cm.Weight was over 4kg on my scale.Allan was very helpful, taught me a lot, pleasant fishing companion and a greaty guide.I would highly recommend him.He is a Natal provincial and Springbok fisherman.he will be representing SA in Namibia during December. His number is available if you PM me.
