so over the past few months in my quest for the perfect rod and reel combo i realised the unwillingness of some dealers to really help their customers..

By this i mean it is difficuit to choose en expensive piece of equipment without being sure that you will be happy with it.. the only real way of knowing is to buy and hope you made a good choice ..

this is not ideal .. why do these guys not have stock that you can use.. yes there are a few chancers out there .. but you should realise that if a guy calls you 1000 times about a rod or reel that he is serious about buying..

if the dealers us one for demo to get 5 more deals than surely the los in value in that item is worth while at the end of the day.. you can still sell the demo rod or reel at 80% or so of its shelf price .. but at least you have not lost out on 10 or so potential sales.. if you think people are gonna ruk die hoender then charge them R50 a day for "testing" the rod or reel... I mean really..

I understand this is tough for the smaller guys but.. Mias.. WA.. etc. should really look into something like this..

Now maybe this is just my business mind speaking.. but i just dont get how people can just show away customers like this..

I sensed your frustration the other day hence my invitation to visit the warehouse and I'll get my rep samples in although they might not necessarily be spooled with what you want.

I also mentioned we'll bring along our personal reels for you to test, even though it's not our brand.

We hold regular clinics for and on behalf of retailers where we and the clients fish our products and get a chance for hands on. As do the majority of wholesalers, especially at events like the SAFishing Tackle Traders and Distributors Show

Retailers like WA Krugersdorp are luckily situated where you can go test on an adjacent sports field and they allow testing. This is not the case with the majority of tackle dealers

As you are in Mpumalanga go to Ganis and get Rasheed to set you up with reels to test. I'm sure he'll help but don't try do it over a phone, go do it in person.

Ja, dit is maar moeilik as jy die regte kobinasie stok en katrol moet kies en jy weet nie waar om te begin nie.

Vroeer jare het ouens soos WA en Mias gereeld op sekere dae in die week "field tests" op stokke en katrolle gedoen by n' naby gelee dam en jy kon ook gaan om dit uit te toets en ek weet vir n feit dat WA nog gereeld stokke en katrolle toets by n' dam naby hulle........vind bietjie uit by verskaffers naby jou maar moet nie probeer oor die foon besigheid praat nie gaan sien hulle persoonlik en ek glo nie hulle sal n' probleem he om jou te help nie.

Ek dink dit sal lekker werk as die groter ouens miskien so 2 keer n' maand by n' dammetjie naby hul winkel "field tests" sessies aanbied.....dit in hulle winkels adverteer op watter datums dit gehou word sodat potensiale kopers daarvan weet.

Dit is waarom die forum so lekker werk.....die ouens praat reguit oor die verskillende produkte van intree vlak tot beste wat jy kan bekostig (wat hulle gebruik of gebruik het) en op die einde het jy darem n' idee wat om te koop met die wete dat jy nie die gemors koop nie.

Maar dit is waarvoor n' waarborg daar is, as jy gekoop het gebruik dit tot op sy uiterste en as dit breek gaan gee dit terug of as jy nie daarvan hou nie maak seker dit breek en gaan ruil dit om vir iets anders.....Hahhahah :)LOL

Hi Guys,

I agree that tackle shops should have "demo" gear available, but also realize that many of the guys in these shops do not fish "multiple-disciplines" ... by this I mean that few owners/staff actually have the knowledge on all aspects of angling (my experience at Mias and WA anyway).

I believe that the best way to choose gear is to use this site ... I've only been on it for a short while, and the collective knowledge from you guys is HUGE!!!

My recommendation to anyone out there wanting specifics about any rod/reel combos, etc. is to post a request for feedback ... maybe we could start a thread with different tackle combos that we use, and rate them accordingly ... I'll take you guy's advice anyday over the advice some guys give in the shops.

In my humble opinion, I now only support tackle shops where the owner/salesperson is an angler in the discipline that I am interested in (eg Keets in Boksburg), because when you ask questions, you get professional feedback and recommendations... just my 2c worth...

Only problem is the anglers are so tight stringed on the wallet you wouldn't be able to afford the maintenance because the anglers wouldn't be willing to pay a 1/4 of what the Golfers pay for the driving range

Gertus , Ek stem saam ek is so spuit met die stok wat ek gekoop het by een van die groot hengel winkels en ja. R 1 295.00 later en ek laaik nie eers die stok nie.
