I would like to take take some time and share with you all my impression of this nifty little fishfinder

At last I got stock on the Striker 4 and I have to say I am quite impressed.

Basic features to this unit is that it comes in a 3.5 inch colour screen (which is very clear might I add) Display resolution n 480x320 HVGA

It has a Chirp sonar (Sending multiple wave of frequencies high and low instead of one single frequency) for better and clearer readings.

Water temp reading and GPS peed.

The feature I like most is the waypoint GPS. Now it's not a map, but you can go fishing and you can plot your waypoints and save it into the system. So for the guys fishing dams, lagoon and estuary, this is a great feature if you want to quickly add a favorite spot.

The size of the striker 4 is a great fishfinder for kayak fisherman too. It is also very user friendly if you find electronics to be your enemy. Quickly to understand. and easy to use.

And at a price of suggested retail of R2850-00 I think it is a steal of an electronic device of this calibre.

Check out the link to the Striker series.

I am for FF upgrade on my kayak ,but looking for bigger
screen . 3.5 in is too small for my old eyes . Bottom scan is must and side scan could be great too . I nearly bought Raymarine Dragonfly 6 being one of brightest and clearest screens.
I also cant have huge transducer on small kayak - not sure of sizes of Chirp on Garmin .
I only fish rivers and dams .
Can you maybe give more info - advice and prices - or just PM
Thanks

Hi D5

There is a Striker 5dv available with a display resolution of 800 x 480 VGA that has the downvu capability. The downvu is a high frequency that allows you to get a clearer and more in depth detailed view below the boat. It produces a photographic image, structure and fish of objects under your vessel.

The transducer however has a dimension of 5.9 x 2.0 x 0.9 in (150 x 52 x 22 mm).

This unit retails at about R7160-00.

The only one in the series that offers the "sidevu" is the 7inch Striker 7sv which has downvu and sidevu technology that will set you back at R13 260-00

Thank you for all info
I would like to see unit in opreation .
With fish finders you dont have that opportunity . You depand on what you hear or read.
Do you know if downvu works when you are stationary - can it detect fish moving under ?

I cannot see any reviews from users yet as it is fairly new line.
I would normally read reviews on amazon where people that bought it and test it give their ratings and tips . I know for fact that is not easy to set downvu to show proper picture like the pictures that they show on promotional photos .

Did you test one of them properly ?
Thanks again for help

As we have just received it this week, I was not able to test this unit yet. If all goes well and the weather permits, I will be taking out the kayak this weekend to see what it actually does on the water.

I will then give you a more thorough answer on the technical abilities of this unit.

I also could not find any more info online, but unpacking it and playing around on demo was pretty impressive, and needless to say, itching to see it in action.

I will keep you posted.
