I see lots of club fisherman come to transkei on fishing trips and during their stay buy crayfish by the hundreds irrespective of their size. What can be done to combat this ecologically unsound and frankly illegal practice

I suggest liasing with the local SAP and parks board officials.
When i worked up in kokstad a number of years ago regular road blocks would be conducted by the SAP and many fishermen saw the inside of prisons for the night with heafty fines later issued.
This how ever is not preventing the hoards of poachers exploiting our sea shores.
I only real solution would be for the parks board to actually do there job and police these areas like they do here in KZN (more money to be made from people that work i think)
Your concern is only for the crayfish however, these same poachers strip the rocks clean of all mussels there by changing the fishes feeding habits and patterns moving the fish on to other feeding grounds.
Although it may be argued that this is the only source of income for the rural uneducated inhabitants, it does not justify an ecological disaster in the making.
