I am using a 6/0 VMC here, but usually use Lynx hooks for this bait. As I use it on light tackle there is little chance of the hook opening.

Cut head off at an angle and cut a fillet more or less the same size as the head part

Insert hook through the flesh part first and a second time through the head

Tie the fillet on one side of the head with the thicker part towards the bend of the hook

Next moer a piece of chokka and cut two tentacles for a bit of movement

Trim the chokka and tie it on the other side of the head. You end up with a nice juicy throw bait.

...and the bait stays on well and the hook remains proud because of the pike's tough head
