I am on the point of selling all my gear, as my sinus problems just dont go away. For the last year or more I was unable to dive, due to sinus problems, meaning no equalising.
Tried everything, been to docters numerous times, but nothings seems to help. Have anyone suffered from this before?

Braailegend don't stress, i was in the same boat as you. I also went to all different doctors and tried man different things. I was so bad at one stage that i actually got nose bleeds almost every single day. It sounds like you prob have a chronic allergy to pollon/dust. I went on a nasal spray called "Avamys" and i did not dive at all for a couple of months to give the medicine a chance to work and my sinuses a chance to recover. Give it a try. You have nothing to lose.

I am now sinus free and have not had a nose bleed in more than a year. That medicine should be covered by your medical aid.

Yes i can relate to this aswell, I have never been diving before but i also have a sinus problem and get this terrible headache on the water due to the movement, and its not sea sickness because i have tried all sorts of tablets. the doctor also recently prescribed avamys for me. will have to wait and see

Just myt 2c. so you are not alone.

Rock salts, half glass luke warm water, dilute and sniff hard friend.
Might sting abit but it clears it all out. I have sinus issues and i do that daily, clears head and keeps infection away. Used to get bad headaches from sinuses when started out, but when they kept clear alls good.

Going to try the avamys. Did the Saltwater thing, and it used to help when it was just a build up. Now its affecting my ears, which is not cool. The other option they said was an operation, but there is no garantee it will work.

I've suffered from sinus as well (I don't dive though) and after trying many different meds over the years, Avamys is by far the best.

Hi! Also had the same problem...tried everything on the market (tablets and capsules) then I discovered a nasal spray called Beclate Aquanase. It`s got a cortisone base and works wonders...never had a problem equalising again...two squirts up each nostril before the dive and off you go. You don`t need a script for this either.

I do the salt sniffing thing.

Another cause of excessive mucus, Mucous ( SNOT ) build up is dairy products.

Stay away from milk and other dairy products.

Also do not rule out an operation.

Had massive problems, but after my op I have never had a problem in the past 2 years. Still gets sinus, but because it's open it clears and don't sit there and go bad.

Not the most fun op either but well worth it. They put 2 tampons in your nose after the op to stop the bleeding.

Jip. Had the op twice now but 15 years apart and it makes one hell of a difference.
First week of recovery is bad but then it is plain sailing. You just need to follow the Dr's orders to the tee.

Let me know if you need the Dr's details which did my op. He is very very good.

Ha ha ha... One problem though... Immodium would bind it all together... You'd need the product that does the opposite... I'll leave it at that... I'm trying to eat my lunch...

Cheers,

Decided on selling gear, rather use money towards buying more fishing tackle:fishn Though the sinus is better, but not gone

Hey boet sorry to hear about the snoz. HAd the same k%k with mine some years ago. I got so desparate. Went fishing but couldnt enjoy it. Just snorted tons of water but nada nothing helped. Went to docs and specialists. One ENT specialist even tried an old Indian remedy where they burn or quarterise the receptors in your nose with some liquid. HAd antibiotics pills more pills quartersone but still a blocked snoz. My old lady had a sinus opp many years ago but they savaged her. They drilled holes under her eye sockets and above and she stayed in hospital while they drained. Then they started doing sinus washouts where they forced a type of sharp pipe through the cartliage in your nose into the sinuses to wash it out. Heard it was eina.

I eventually had Fess which is where they go in via your snoz. You wake up with these two moerse tampons in your nose but i could feel even with these that the problem was sorted. Doc described the sinuses as a bee hive with a lot of cells linked together which are paper thin bones. Problem is that the one has to drain into the next then so. WHen you get sinus these little guys swell so nothing can drain. They remove some of these thin little structures. Sorted out my K%k but still get paranoid if i get a cold that they will not drain again.

Use a half a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of bicarb mixed in warm water and then sort that. Thats what i had to do after the opp. Salt sterilizes and bicarb softens the gunk.

If your ears are also taking it badly maybe your getting ear-infection. Been there before, try suggesting it to your doctor, or if you have, try antibiotics. I had sinus symptoms to at first.
