I am off with the family to Sterkfontein dam in just over a weeks time and would like a few tips of what baits/dips to use and what depth to fish. I will be staying in the chalets at the Nature reserve and I have heard some good comments about the fishing right there. I will be there for 3 nights so should I look at a feed spot and if so which particals work best in the dam. Thanks inadvance

Hi guys. Our club fishes sterkfontein annually and this is my personal experience. The water is very clean and cold and there are a lot of deep water points where casting far isn't necessary. baits that work well are plain/caramel floaties and fx/stuttafords combo. use very little dip since the water is clean. a 50-70m cast is sufficient if your'e fishing from a deep point, other than that a good 80-100m cast will do. I have caught fish by just flicking about 20-30m at a deep spot but with a lot of muddies bites in between. a deep spot is located on the far right of the entrance past the challets. the facilities are very good and the reserve itself is very well maintained with plenty of fish to catch! goodluck.
