Hooks for "spoons" ?

Hi guys, here's my question:

What sort of hooks are best to attach to a spoon, say between 2 and 4oz?

My boss reckons he's not so keen on fishing any more so he's focusing on his golf. The ballie gave me a handful of random lead and a few molds to make sinkers. . . . but when I got home and had a look at the stuff, the first thing that came to mind was spoons...

And I was wondering which would be more effective- circles or baitholders?

Seems like generally 2 sizes, but the larger ones, about 3 or 4 oz, look like they could become nice spoons. Can drill holes for split rings, or make old school wire rings.

What do you guys think?

On that size I would use about a 5/0 single.

The rule of thumb though is the gap of the hook must be bigger than the width of the spoon. I like it much bigger.

Went with a 6/0 for the first one but found out I had no steel wire for there rings - only plastic coated stuff which doesn't twist or tie too well. ended up burning the ends so I could twist the bare wire.

Had to sand my £%#! off to get a pretty dull "shine". Much easier with a file, but then the spoon gets smaller :fbash

Howzit!? If you can get hold of a can of Galvabrite, that might work for some durable shine. Perhaps someone who has tried that may want to comment.

As for the hooks; I would get hold of some red assist cord and use that to attach a large single to the back end, taking care that the gape is substantially larger than the width of the spoon (to avoid it getting stuck to the spoon). I might also be inclined to add a reasonable sized single to the front end at the attachment point.

Good luck.

Interesting idea with the second hook. I have enough of these things so I'll actually give it a shot. Thanks man ((goodp_

Will try find that Polish too. I have some autosol but that just made the spoon black. Had to sand it off.

You will be wasting your time. You cant paint it and you cant polish it.

Try sticking some prism tape on it. That's your only hope.

Here are some of the tapes I use.

I was actually thinking of dipping one in that liquid rubber stuff that folks make soft grips on tools with. Not sure how long that would stay on though. Was also thinking of mixing some fibreglass resin to dip in for some kind of hard coating. Wouldn't be too clear though but then again bullet spoons come in a bunch of colours...
Is there some other kind of durable clear resin that would be more effective? I'm sure there is.

Now that looks ayoba Bennie. _seal1_

Would I still need to do some kind of coating over that or would it just be easier to just re-tape once in a while?

No coating. Just replace from time to time.
