Hi this might be a long shot but I am hoping someone can help me if there is anyone living in the area or has property there that I can get some info from. My folks are looking at purchasing a piece of land out that way and building something small for them to enjoy. Is it worth investing in the area?

Any info is appreciated.

That whole area has a total oversupply of erven. Very few are building. Shelly Point is stunning, safe and exclusive whilst affordable. Shops are far unless you will travel dirt road to Vredenburg. Small Spar in St. Helena. Good fishing if you are a boat person...snoek, yellow tail and even tuna at times. Deep water is close.

Definitely!!!!

We have a house just off the Golden Mile (2nd row from the beach) in Britannia Bay and we LOVE IT THERE!!!

Shopping is a breeze - as Thika said there is a new Spar in St Helena Bay - very well stocked. For big shopping, a 20 minute drive to the West Coast Mall in Vredenburg for pretty much anything needed.

Beach frontage plot on the Golden Mile or in Shelley Point (very few left) are expensive, and will start from R2.3M and upwards. There are really good value for money stands in 3rd and 4th row - VERY GOOD VALUE.

Our medium term plan is to move down there permanently - that's how much we enjoy it.

Good Security infrastructure (particularly in Shelley Point) and ADT are very active, together with Singita Security, so crime is low.

Best Kept Secret, Cheers - RB

Thanks for the replies guys. I was just concerned that there wasn't as many houses and people are avoiding the area. I suppose it will become more developed over time.

We don't want too many people moving down there, that will just spoil it. LOL

Many Gauteng Professionals as well as expats from the USA, UK, Europe and from all over the world are retiring there (not just old folks) - many in their 40's, and I must say it's very Cosmopolitan in a small way - Awesomeness Central.

Some of the local Gauteng business folks are taking advantage of the schooling down there - Vredenburg is in the Top for Matric results every year (not the 30%ers, the A's)

Best place in South Africa in my opinion.

Cheers - RB
