Bennie, i phoned them and that was the form that was emailed to me. The lady then went through the various parts that where relevant for ski boats.

I also contacted another chap (Gert Visser) at ICASA to make sure i had the correct documentation and it was confirmed with him that it indeed is the correct form.

You guys must communicate directly with JHB or Pretoria, the Durban branch of ICASA is in the process of moving premises and hence no one answers there phones.
Cool, thanks!
I nearly completed the wrong form them! :fbash
Pm me your fax number and i'll forward the faxed copy where they showed me which parts needed to be fill out for ski boats

Hallo

I'm abit confused!

The VHFGUIDE.pdf in MichealK's post and
the SSBBOOK.pdf are they two different exams?

Or is the second .pdf (ssbbook.pdf) just a more in depth
document for the same exam?

Kawie, they are 2 seperate exams.

For ski boats you only need to know the vhf guide.

I'm assuming that the SSB Book exam would be for guys on yachts and larger vessels that can travel internationally?

PokerFace what hand-held did you get yourself? I'm looking at buying myself one while I'm Kayaking, nice to keep track of the weather.

Firstly Good luck to those who are having to deal with ICASA. If I have come across an ineffecient operation it is them.

I have a handheld VHF for which you require an operator's licence for yourself and a ship to shore VHF radio license from ICASA.

The 29Mhz only requires a 29Mhz licence from ICASA.

Every year for the past 4 years, I battle to get my licences from them, it is now Oct and I am still waiting for my 29Mhz licence, so yeah good luck, unfortunately you will find out how useless they are.

Seawitch just keep your reciept on board, with the rest of your documentation as proof of payment to ICASA

I keep a file onboard with all the communications, receipts, etc as proof. ICASA have finally e-mailed me my copy of the VHF Radio licence. It has take them 11 months, so good luck to all out there.

anyone know what happens if you are found without a license because you are waiting for one from icasa? do they fine you, or do you get a fine from samsa?
if it takes so long to get your license in the post, do they just assume that you will not go fishing for months because your icasa cert. hasn't arrived?

i wish they would make this all a bit easier, then you could walk in, and walk out with a license, more people would conform.

Hi
If found without a licence or proof of appliation you will be fined and that is by the border police(SAPS Water wing) that is happening in Durban.Proof of application is your deposit slip.

The operators certificates are generally obtaiined fairly quick as these are processed at the local Icasa offices.

The Shiptation license for the radio itself comes from Sandton and that period is minimum 6-8 weeks. Also it is recommended to submit application to local offices if possible to forward to Sandton as a record is kept locally and can be traced in the event of loss.

I trust you r questions have been answer.
