Hi

Can someone please assist me with info regarding bass fishing at Wagendrift dam which is situated near Estcourt? I have never fished at this venue before. Thank you

Hi there and my names Steven, I'm a local from estcourt and usually fish at wagendrift dam, there are numerous bass fishing spots at wagendrift, if you'd like i can show you when you go there, the biggest bass i've caught there is 1.1kg in August 2007 from the bank, if you have a boat you can go after the big ones.

I lived a good couple of years in Estcourt in the nineties. I have never caught any bass.
However, my PB carp was caught there in 1990. This weighed about 16kg.

I think in general, fishing is difficult @ Wagendrift.

Yes and No pjjdp, 2 weeks ago i went with my friend to wagendrift dam and we were catching 1kg carp and barbel, and a week before that i was catching carp, my biggest being 2kg and 2nd 1.5kg, it depends on how you fish and how you target them, ps i always fish from the bank.

goodguy did you take those fish home?remember a keepnet is no necesary if you are fishing catch and release.

No they are not banned but banned from competitive angling

Conservation authorities would prefer all carp to be killed and none to be released as it is an invasive alien species threatening ecosystems.

I do release all mine and only keep them in nets/sacks for competitions and release them directly in social outings

I think what Bapsfontein is trying to say is that the wire nets cause a huge amount of damage to larger fish when they are kept in them and the resulting damage causes infection and fungal skin infectionsa that will eventually kill that fish and many others in the dam so if possible, release the fish that you don't want and kill and clean those you are going to remove

Yes i did keep the fish, and thanks for the info, also i went on the 26 of april and caught again. 1.9kg and 1.4kg and 900gram
