Just to give some feedback,

We went to Mihanzi Vaal Dam this past Saturday, we arrived at the Venue at 06:30 or so and the weather looked like it was going to turn for the worse again.

Luckily we decided to ride out the cold morning wind and rainy clouds because it turned into a really nice and hot summer's day.

Looks like the water level is still dropping but I'm sure as soon as the rainy season gets into full swing that the level will improve.

We got all the lines in the water by 08:00 or so and it went really slow, but from 10:00 the bites started picking up and we had some really awesome reel runs which had the Adrenalin pumping and caused us to run up and down that white beach sand.

Total fish we caught for the day = 12, of which the heaviest was 2kg or so. Lots of small grass carp.

We were just testing the waters and fished between 60m & 100m and used the following for bait :

1) Dough with plain mielie and the following Dips : Catch-On Banana Bliss / Catch-On Bunspice / Catch-On Strasberry / SuperCast 007 / SuperCast Quatro / SuperCast RedBanjo / SpringBok CFX
2) Dough with earthworms
3) Dough with Crickets

Definitely going back to Mihanzi soon but this time I would like to go deep and try some Chickpeas and Tigernuts also.

Also really impressed with the resort which is really clean and well maintained.

Can't wait for the next trip to Mihanzi.

Sorry there wasn't time to take more photos as the weather picked up again at 16:30 and looked like it was going to rain at any moment.

Glad you had a good one I'm going there from the 24th to the 27th Sept hoping the weather is good. Yeah fishing in close sometimes the small ones bug you going deep 150+ definitely brings bigger ones never caught under 3.5kg at 150m+ the biggest so far been 7.2kg

What do you normally use at Mihanzi? And which side do you sit?

Hi

I use mainly molasses,homemade fx,garlic,banjo,ebony & vaaldam mix, tcp, juana, mainly fish with kaboom mielies there and floats some times and make a feeding spot so never had a bad session there.

That's the way to go and making a good feeding spot will almost always deliver nice fish and good results.

Can't wait to see what happens with the chickpeas and nuts when we fish there again next month.

Have you had any success with big catfish there?

No the biggest I've had their so far is only 6 for big cats tago for me is the best
