Hi all,

Been lurking around the forum for a few days now and decided to join as I could not download a map someone posted.

Anyhoo, had my basic entry level fin chaser 10 footer for the past year and got very interested in the last few months. Lots to learn and very exited. I've been learning even more since browsing this board.

As you can see, my equipment is still very entry level but I prefer to master it before I go splashing out on the expensive stuff. As you all know this hobby gets very expensive (in more ways than one).

So, as you say, tight lines and wish me well.

PS My surname is Dicks, hence the nickname. If it's offensive I'll gladly re-register.

Regards,
Damien Dicks

Oh PPS... I caught a small shark off the kalk bay wall (which I released) using chokka in last week which is my first official catch. My two previous catches were two blaasoppies :)

Stuiwe lyne!

HI, welcome to the forum.
You will enjoy it.
ps Don't worry, I am also a novice when it comes to fishing (I'm very good at driving boats, though).  My wife still prefers the fish that you "catch" coming in a ready packed box, and which doesn't smell!!  See my problem?

LOL I hear you. On the subject of boats (I know this may be the wrong place), but do you have to get a special license for a boat and is it as "easy" as it looks?

Thanks for the welcomes all.

Was out at Melkbos this weekend. With the wind being near gale in most areas it was quite nice to be out that side. There's limited shelter from the wind there so it was rather pleasant. No loose sand and some grass for the wife to chill on.

I was there on Saturday without my rod and no one caught a thing... Learn't a bit about coral worm though from one of the guys. Then I returned on Sunday and there was a guy that said they had taken out a 4 - 4.5kg Kob earlier the morning but nothing happened while I was there.

I then tried out Kelpbaai and holbaai and the wind was terrible. Took two casts and caught what must have been the biggest kelp (bush?) I've seen on both occasions. I left holbaai with sand in my gills and called it a day... But I had a fantastic time.
