Hey guys.

I've been fishing "competitive-social" (if it makes sense) for ages. Recently moved up to Gauteng and want to get into the competitive scene. I've got a set of the old Loomis & Franklin 12 foot rods, brilliant rods if I want to go up to 110 - 120m, seeing that I very seldom get a hook pull with them.

But I need to get rods that will get me the extra distance if needed. I had a couple of casts over the weekend with a 12 foot DC... Do those rods lob a bol a helluva distance!!! So my mind is set on the DC's, what I want to know is if there will be a difference in the fish playing capacity between the different length rods? I've read that the DC rods are stiff, therefore prone to hook pulls? So will a difference in the length of the same rod make a difference in landing fish?

Keen on some feedback!

That's not answering the question

The 13' due to the Parabolic action of a fishing rod will always feel softer than the 12' and will have a better casting range.

Whether you go DC or Raging Bull, Jakkel, Blue Marlin or Rocket the rods are designed to get to the fish all you need to do is adjust your fish playing style to prevent hook pulls

In competitive angling Casting is paramount, fish playing comes second. first get the fish on the line then worry about playing them.

As for the comment of DC and Raging Bull, each casting style needs a different rod, I personally don't like either and Fish with Blue Marlin G2's for distance and like the feel of the Oval DC being launched in 2013

I personally fish the 13' G2 as it throws from a spring and a bol to a 4oz.

Thanx for the replies. So in theory a 13ft will be better? I like the DC's action. I have thrown with beastmasters and I never really feel comfortable casting with them. As with Raging bulls I don't know, have never tried them.

With the DC I felt comfortable from the first cast. We took a photo-frame-sequence(?)and it is obvious that my cast action loads the DC well. With my first cast I bettered my Loomis limit by at least 30 to 40m (conservative estimate)

When are the Oval DC's going to be released? Do you have an idea of the price? They seem to be "softer", I googled them, but could not find much info on them.

Also, the G2's as I understand them, are customs? Or am I going in the wrong direction with my train of thought? What is their going rate?

G2's will be R1850 or R2200 depending on components and yest they are customs

Oval DC delivery date. Not quite sure yet. Base is stiffer than any rod in the market as the Oval minimizes bending/flexing. It will be in the same price class as the current DC (maybe slightly more (8-10%)) as a result of the higher exchange rate at the time of purchase. The Oval DC will come out with genuine Fuji Components and only 1 tip as the tip is as flexible as the 30T and as powerful as the 40T tip on the current DC

Thanx Enigma. So it would be wise to wait for the Oval DCs?

That is a bit out of my price range, I'd have to save for a while to get enough cash for the G2s. What is the difference (beside being customs)with the G2?

The Oval DC will only be available in 12' and 10'6"

The G2 is thinner and lighter than all of these rods and has a much softer feel to it an suites a wider range of casters.

There's nothing wrong with the Current DC's and they'll remain in the market as a top casting rod for a long time still.

Casting performance is much the same for all the higher end rodsfor caster's of high proficiency and there will be a very small margin of distance variation.

So it comes down to weight feel and brand loyalty when it gets to these. The G2 has the advantage of being a nicer rod to play a fish with

Thanx Enigma, you have been a helluva lot of help! Think I will wait for the Oval DCs before I buy. But I like what you say about the G2s. Will definately keep them in mind.
