HELP WITH POURING SPINNERS

Hi all

Have had a couple of spinner moulds made and managed to get hold of scrap white metal from a mate that is in the scrap game. My problem is as follows do not know exactly what the white metal is made up of. I know you should use WM 90 but it is quite expensive and if i can come right with the scrap white metal  what a bonus as it costs me nothing, and have 35kg of it.

My problem is as follows the metal i have sets to quickly even if i heat the mould, so it does not allow for one continious pour. My question what can i add to the white metal to help it flow better?

Try mixing with straight lead. Might take a bit of trial and error with the percentages to get balance between porability and hardness.

How are you heating your metal? And what is your mold made of? I've found melting in a pot on a gas cooker doesnt work well. I use one of those mini hand held blow torches that you buy from any hardware store. Heat the metal directly with the flame and keep the flame aimed on the spout of the pot when you pour. It keeps the tin hot as it goes into the mold. Heating your mold definitely helps, unless you have one made from one of AMT's silicon mold max products that you dont need to heat.

Remember adding lead will dull your spinners a lot quicker and change the weight

Dont mix in lead as it will only make for dull spoons, as P suggests, use a blowtorch and keep it on the ladel when you pour, you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks guys mould has been cut on a CNC machine out of a solid block of alluminium and i have been melting metal in a pot over a gas burner. Will purchase a blow torch and try that way.  Will also heat mould until it is up to temp before pouring.

my 2c.

I use a cutting torch ( setaline and oxygen )this will heat it up to max. I use it on lead and does not settle for 2min or so. Just watch out for when it starts to bubble, it is quite painful when it splashes on to you!!:fbash
