Hi gents

I'm needing your assistance, i have tried everything but cant get my gps going on my DSC VHF radio.

First of all what i've done, the garmin echomap 92 SV is working 100% and in the setting ive gone to other vessels then activated DSC.

Then on my standard horizon Gx 1300 eclipe ive changed the settings from USA to international.

In terms of the wiring, from my gps i have a red and black which ive sent straight to my battery for power. Part of the power cable i have 2 x nema cables (Blue and brown)

On my VHF i have the red and black connected directly onto my battery and radio is working. Then in terms of the DSC wiring, i have 2 cables comming out the back. Silver and white which is for an external speaker and the second cable has 4 wires (yellow, green, brown and white)

I went to skiport and was advised to connect Blue on gps to yellow on vhf and brown on gps to green on vhf. This did not work.

I then tried a multitude of different combinations and still the coordinates were not showing on the DSC VHF.

This is taken from the manual

VHF Yellow Nema GPS input(+) - Nema out (+) finder
VHF Green Nema GPS input (-) - Nema out (-) Finder
VHF White Nema DSC output(+) - Nema in (+) Finder
VHF Brown Nema DSC output(-) - Nema in (-) Finder

In my Garmin installation manual they say the black wire is ground / nema 0183, so do i need to connect the black wire which runs to the battery to the vhf aswell??????

Please help with wiring instructions

This issue bugged me so much that i went back to the boat club and tackled the finder vhf problem again.

Problem solved.

Issue though with Garmin

Garmin should have a brief list of to do instructions in order to get the finder and finder / vhf functional.

My issue was not so much with the wiring, but more with the activation of functions on my finder/ chartplotter.

Basically first you need to activate the DSC first. Go to settings - other vessels - activate DSC

Secondly go to communication in your settings and then go to Nema 0183 activation - activate Nema standard

Once you have done that then go to your VHF radio, set it on international settings

secondly on the echomap the foollowing wires need to be joined - blue to the yellow and brown to green

Very stoked its working now, massive problem connecting the devices could have been avoided with a brief to do list from garmin in the installation instructions.
