Heavy Boating Rod

Looking for a 'Standup' rod in the lines of the Shimano Tiagra range or something like them..

Want to incorporate into the swimbaiting/kite fishing outfit.

To pair with a Tyrnos 50.

If you have something like this or know someone that does and want to part with it, let me know.

Thanks

Hiya

The Shimano Tiagra range is rather soft.

A much better bet is the Penn Tuna sticks. They retail for around R600-700. AWESOME rod for the money!!

If you can find them, the old Daiwa STP 24 is the standard rod used by the commercial tuna anglers here in the Cape. They were replace by another daiwa rod, which has too much carbon and tended to snap under heavy commercial use.

The Penn is a fibreglass rod, that can take LOTS of abuse. Can't beat it for value for money and performance. My 50kg Penn Stand-up stick is VERY close in action and pulling power when comparing it to my Calstar rod, which is 6 times the price!! (which is also glassfibre!!)

dont use roller guides as they dont work well with sand

I use a cheap elbe musselcracker 7ft rod which I sent in to get new eyes put on. Its really cheap and it works for me

Thanks for the valuable input here gents, much appreciated!

Will hit Commercial Marine today and see what I can come up with.

I have a Seagrand Grim Reaper Heavy VJ Edition - cast weight 120-300g with Max Drag rating of 15Kg. It has been shortened and is pretty much a pole. Enigma supplied it some time back as a kite rod, dunno how it will handle the fight? It has a 'gimble butt' so can work with my harness..

What say you?
