I am yet to see one. Guess the answer is in the name :D
I was expecting a witty answer like that ::S.  It is used world wide, just looking for something similar for snorkelling the shallow reefs and gullies when something might appear in front of me.

we used to make our own when we were kids, from sticks nails and a piece of surgical tubing... apart from that never even heard of them here...

Hi Mate, I used it in the Bahamas Caribbean as it's the only way of spearfishing allowed over there. It works pretty well if you hit the target other wise if you miss, it can end up in an intense search for the spear. Never used one in South Africa, but saw it a few times in dive shops. Good luck and keep me posted.

Hi, If you look at some thing really small you should look at a pneumatic(air) speargun. They will range from 50cm and bigger.Mares have a really small one I saw a diver use one before.

I think for smaller fish it could make sense but in most part of the country we actually have fairly large fish which would make using a hawaiian sling quite difficult.... I have a 90cm gun as my shortest but I have to be honest when I'm working caves at places like Arniston a 70cm would be perfect.... but then again I could look up and see some cracker that are either out of range for a 70 or it wont have enough power.... the choice is yours...
