Has anyone used slides for Barbel

Hey guys i was wondering if any has ever used slides with any success, and by that i mean like what is used by the coast. you cast your line with sinker attached and then slide your bait down once your sinker is set.

I'm thinking of experimenting and doing this but seen as its almost mid winter right now ain't the best time i gather so will wait till it warms up , hopefully Aug or Sep.

The first problem you will get is that the grap sinker will not set if the surfase is not sand and there is no strong current to wash sand over the grap sinker. Thus preventing u from tightening ur line to slide a bait down. The best option will be to use a return slide so that the fish can swim freely but that is not something i would sugjest. I would rather stick to the fixed bait and sinker.

Thanks Cheetha Fs  i thought about that. yeah guess i'll jus stick to the norm for now till i get more experience and then try new stuff.  Have a great wkn man.

I used it a couple of times and had success with it. Both with the non return and sliding slider. I didn't experience to much problems setting the Grapnel sinker but I must ad that I only used it where I could get a greater angle than from the bank itself, therefor I had to use less power to slide the bait. If you are going to use live bait I wouldn't think it matters if you use it during winter times. Big Barbel must keep on feeding during the winter to substain there body mass and they won't leave a 'lost' bait alone for too long. Other baits I would not use with this method during winter but might give it a go in summer. So ja I would say try it.

The thought did cross my mind. I might give it a try this summer, if i do i will let everyone know the results good or bad.

o ok thx Sk. what do you find is the best bait to use in winter for  them(Barbel) as this is the first winter that i'm fishing so still trying to learn.

cant go wrong with half a carp with its guts still in or even a live bait. PM Nobbles for some nice cat hooks and sliding sinkers. I have found that the sinkers whe use dont get stuck as with our normal sinkers and the rigg itself is awsome!

Haven't fished much during the winter in the past/ up to date but my cut feel tells me live bait and big fish head baits will bring in the big boys for you.

It works well all you must do is use a heavy grapnel sinker and bend the claws out, and use bait string to keep the claws in place
