so i decide to carve my own popper this weekend, got the body finished and some serious blisters on my hand, all i used was a piece of wood and old pen knife. just wanted your opinions on the design and wether or not i should go about attatching hooks and so on. also any fairly simple ideas for weighting the back, the back id about 1cm in diameter and its a fairly small popper 11 cm by 2,5 cm . pics to follow.

That must have taken hours! Don't stop now. I think you could cut a sliding barrel sinker in half to weight the tail. Or if you want I have a spare tail weight lying around, you are welcome to it.
thanks bennie, i think it was 4 hours of carving also had the barrel sinker idea, just thinking about how to attatch it, the actual join to the wood does not have to bae super strong as the wire running through will infact hold the sinker in place, so mayb just use a form of adhesive to stick it on???

Normally we drill the tail hole 6mm to accommodate the tail weight. but I suppose if you drill it say 2mm or 3mm to the belly ring to suit the wire it should hold it in place. Give it a bash and if you don't come right you can always open the hole and get the weight from me.

How is the progress? Did you come right with the drill bit? I have a 160mm long 6mm drill bit. a long 3mm drill bit is going to be a problem because of breakage. I would use a standard one and just drill the first 20mm from the arse with it. Use the 6mm from the front. But no lies it is going to be hard to drill it straight.
Let me post you the tail weight then you drill 6mm from both sides to the centre. Much easier.

drill 2 holes from either end , sharpen a 5mm stainless piece of roundbar hit the bugger . most times you only got a few mm to go through .
