Guys what "light rod & reel combo" would I want to use for barbel fishing if I was to go out and buy a set ??

Well because I've just recently rigged by bass spinning rod with a plattie & a 1 hook trace and landed a 20lb barbel on the set-up.... the reel is a Shimano Slade 4000 I think. It had 12lb Berkely BG line & a 30lb Fireline leader I attached in a hurry !!!!

It was so much fun on light gear so the thought crossed my mind.

Other than that I'm currently using the Ugly sticks & a huge Daiwa reel.

Howzit BassPro!  I've been using the Daiwa Firewolf 8'6" with a Daiwa Regal and .21 mono - fantastic!  The rod has a serious spine - I've landed a 4.5 kg spotted grunter on drift bait with this set up - it ran about 100m in its first run!  But it is also delicate enough to cast a single freelined mud prawn a fair distance without ripping it.  The long cork handles also make for a comfortable grip and enable you to put some pressure on a beast.  Check them out - both are very well-priced items.

Cheers

Thanks FF - I'll have a look at them, I'm sure to pass by the local tackle shop soon for some platties anyway.
