27 Mhz is the old CB frequency and whilst it is almost certainly possible from a technical point of view to open your radio and change the operating frequency. There are problems associated with it.
1. ICASA will undoubtedly have a fit.
2. There are only 3 legal operating channels for marine use on 29 Mhz whilst the CB can tune to 9, which is one of the reasons for ICASA will do the fit thing.
The antennas sold with radios today are tuned for a specific frequency or band, and because we cant all go riding around with full wave ( the MOST efficient length for an antenna) sticks in the air ( 432 " for CB, and about 408 " for 29Mhz, or even 1/4 wave sticks ( 108 and 102 inches). they 'bluff' the antenna into believeing its is a certain length by winding a conductor wire around the stick. You end up with a physical length of about 36- 40 ".
A 29 Mhz antenna will receive signals on 27 Mhz ( and the other way round) but the range will be kak.
If you try to transmit with the wrong antenna, you will damage your radio
There are several ways to change the antenna
1. Unwind the conductor and wind on a new one -- problem here is that to unwind it, you have to bugger it up.
2. Build a small circuit to "tune " the antenna -- problem here is that any such circuit will steal transmitting power.
So my advice is -- change the antenna by buying the correct one.

The GME GX300 radio can do both 27MHZ and the 29MHZ Channels. You must take your radio a a radio dealer and have the 27MZ channels taken out and re-program the new Marine channels that are 29Mhz. If you want to use the radio as a land mobile radio then the dealer can add the 4X4 channels to your radio instead of the Marine or cb channels.
You must however apply for a license for these radios, The licensing fee is not expensive+- R 56-00 per anum or something like that.
