Garmin Striker 7SV eBay vs Local pricing

Hi all

I am in the market for a new fishfinder and is just in awe with the side view imaging capabilities of these units. Obviously with these features come the price tag...

On eBay they go for $499, about R8500 with postage included. Locally they go for R13000.

Has anybody ordered marine electronics online or would you advise me against it?

Cheers

E bay's shipping & insurance policy's changed some time back. Prior to that I bought every bit of equipment from them except the boat. Now it's not worth it & the SARS is on to it so you get whammied at the post office which never used to happen.

Why the big prize difference?   Are we being nailed by local suppliers?
I am also in the market for a new Fish Finder

Where did you manage to find the 72SV for R13000?

The cheapest i can find it in SA is for R16300 excl vat

I'm undecided on the 72 SV or 92SV

I can get the 92 SV for R18750 excl vat

Can you get it cheaper if so please let me know where

Hi all
I imported a Gamrmin 521S from America a few years ago. When it landed I paid the Vat and some import fees but it still was way cheaper than in South Africa.
I picked up problems with the Avionics card and took it to Garmin in Johannesburg. They exchanged it for me without asking any questions and I did mention that it was imported.
I know if something goes wrong with the unit itself you will have to send it back to the USA for repairs, but up to now I never had any hassles with the unit.

I am not sure if the rules has changed in the mean time.
