Just browsing through these threads and I am amazed at some of the concoctions being used these days. I don't doubt the effectiveness of these "doepas" and "muttis", but I personally have never needed it. My bait consists primarily of brown bread, this with "borrie" or tumeric, or with sweet corn, or even on its own. It works for me in the rapids, dams, or rivers and NEVER lets me down. I can honestly say in the last 8 months or so I have not come back empty handed once.
Natural baits like worms, crabs, crickets, flying ants, snails etc all work extremely well, so very rarely do I ever stock my bag with any sort of muttis etc.
Also, why is everyone trying to throw to the other side of the bank? Again, entirely uneccessary. 99% of my fish are caught close to the side, with the exception of the dam, where you generally speaking need to get into deeper water. I have attached two pics, on one of me with my daughter with a nice carp caught on brown bread, single weightless trace about 5 meters from the bank, and my boet Gavin with a nice largemouth yellow caught on the rapids with a few splitshots on a sinlge hooks and a crab, also about 5meters from the bank....
