fishing stanford river

Theres a river passing through stanford and I suspect there are fish in there. How will I go about finding out how to catch them?

The only freshwater experience I've got is fishing for carp in a dam which involves using corn bombs and flavoured corn. And also fishing for barbell's in a river using those fat white worms in compost.

I would really like to throw a line into the river.

 

Please share some advice with me  with regards to lures, methods, ect!

firstly ....where is stanford, then we might be able to assist.

if you want to catch nice big barbel one of the better baits to use is a fishhead, with a long-shank hook sticking out plus minus one inch out of the head, or even a piece of fillet of almost any of the resident smaller species in the waters you are at

Well I don't know which species I can find in that river. I want to see what I can pull out there.

Stanford is near Hermanus. Very small place

In that case, it's gonna B tough to exactly say what you must take with and if you're gonna take something for each possible species then you might as well pack a bakkie and a trailer full of gear.  So my advice is to kae maybe two rods and reels and rig one for Carp/barbel end one for Kurper/bass.  Carp/barbel rig some mielies (flavoured of cause) and the other for the Kurper and Bass rig that with earhtworms, and then hope for the best and tight lines.

Sorry but it's a little difficult if you don't know what species are resident in the water.

Please report back on what you caught and/or maybe have seen ito fish swimming etc. maybe then we (I) could give you better advice.

i don't think you will find any kurper, but you will find yellowfish and carp and barbel.

the barbel i did explain, for the carp you can use mealiebomb and floaties.

floaties work very well, many flavours but try garlic (the red coloured) and almond you can also flavour the bomb and use honey-glow use the green one.

yellowfish and muddies are the v6's of freshwater they both need a long explanation how to catch but go for those two first and i will catch you later

hi there Johan.
I have friends and grandparents that stay on a farm just outside stanford and I go there quite often. The river in stanford holds largemouth bass, kurper, bluegill, smallmouth bass, and I have seen some HUGE koi that someone released into the river.

I have never seen a barbel or carp in that river. My most bass in an hour fishing at the river is 16 bass. I fish on the river that runs through the farm though. I have tried fishing the stanford part of the river and had no luck at all! I have seen a Photo of a 5.7 kg come out of the river but the river in the stanford side is polluted and very deep!!

I once saw a trapped seal there come from the lagoon. when i saw it jump i thought I saw a shark lol. but yeah I have no idea what technique to use in the deep and polluted end of the river. All I can say is that there are HUGE fish in there.
