fishing cold water in false bay

I will be fishing false bay this winter on a boat on a regular basis. Which species can I target in the colder (winter) water. I suppose I can forget about kob and elf from now on (going out tomorrow).

What tactics can I use? Spoons, Baits?

How far do I need to go off shore to find snoek and geelbek?

i know that geelbek feed near reefs,and the only place you gona get snoek is deep in the blue clear water.

Hi Johan

You stand a very good chance of picking up elf and kob tomorrow.Both these species are still in the bay.If you have a temp gauge on your fish finder,look for the warmer pockets of water.Bear in mind however,that the readings you receive cover the surface temp.In shallow water,this should not pose too much of a problem(2-10fathoms).One way of checking the temp on the bottom is to feel your lead as soon as you get it into the boat.Primitive but effective!

As for snoek in the cape,you really don't have to head out into the deep.Depending on where the shoals are,snoek are very often found as close as 1nm offshore.Buffels bay inside Cape Point is a classic example.There are many other marks where this is often the case.
