fishing at klip drift dam

hi ive got a club comp at klip drift dam in a few weeks time and heard that the dam is very hard to fish
please can someone help me out with depth , dips to use, baits and any other advice on how to fish the dam thank u :fishn

I've never fished there. But what I heard is the following:

Depth: As far as you can cast.
Baits: Apparently the spearmint is a good dip to use there.
I also saw on Vaskap once that they use a lot of custard powder for that venue. But it could be just a seasonal addition (depending on time of spawning I suppose) to the bol.

But hang on, there will be others on this forum that might add something.

i also heard that mint is a dip to try. I dont know about depth, but distance is key. Bottom rig about as long as your arm with a p4 or p5. Let the fx run down the whole of the rig just before you cast it as far as possible. Good luck!

Die dan is n baie lekker dam.

Diepte: Jy moenie bang wees on jou eenstok op 50 m te begin nie en elke uur 10 m dieper te gooi nie. Van 11 uur af kan jy by jou dieper sok aan sluit met die vlak een.
Jou 2de stok begin jy so diep as wat jy kan en maak voer plek. Baie mense sal se die vis begin eers 11uur te byt want dan beweeg hulle dieper.

Dips: Die dips hang af van watse kant die wind waai. as die wind van reg voor af kom kan jy ma soet henge goeie komb. (FX en Banjo, Honyglo en Speermint). as die wind van die weste af kom hengel jy vrugte( TjopTjop en FX. Strabery en Kiana) en as die wind van die ooste af kom vang jy stink en sterk (Perdeby en Tac,Rooi Tcp en anys). Die laaste 4 keer het ek n avg. van 17 vis geland. Jy kan Fx elke keer op die bom ook sit.

Aas: Op die boonste hoek n soet wit deggie en onder n floatie met degie. met jou eerste 3 vis kan jy vas stel op wat by hulle en dan kan jy oor skakel na net n deggie of float met degie. Die dam is modderrig so hengel met slap lyne anders trek jy jou aas in die modder.

it appears that klipdrift is Blade's backyard, but i have fished there quite a few times so my input can be used as an after thought.

I agree with Blade on distances and the rest of the gameplan, so I am not going to repeat the rest. There is huge moggels in the dam that you MIGHT pick up. I say might because they are difficult to hook in the mouth. What you often get is "line bites" where algae gets stuck to your maunline and the moggels will take this and swim off, causing you to get a reel run with the mainline moving left or right. You can also expect to get barbel in the dam and normal baits for them would apply. But to get to the main target species, carp, I would like to add the following combinations:

-  FX, Hasbeen and Stuttafords on the bol; swd on the top hook / a floatie (FX) and swd on the bottom hook. This is known as a favorite combo for Klipdrift and I would start the one rod off with this. (PS MrMuti has a mixture of FX and Hasbeen that's named Ogies)

-  Banjo and Ebony on the bol (my pegmate actually used BMT and Yebo-both Supercast)

Points to remember though is that you have to establish a feeding spot. Klipdrift can be very "tempramental" so for that reason you have to start at two extreme distances (50m and 100m+). Its difficult to say that you have to continue to build a feeding spot at these distances cos the fish can come out at any distance. But look where the guys who have caught a fish are casting at and consider that the profile of your swim is more or less similar to theirs and cast to the same distance. Another point to remember is to use custard powder where you shake your whole baited up trace in the powder before you cast. This can be done once every now and then.

You must also take note of the time it takes for a pick up. Sometimes it can take as long as an hour and 15 minutes. Obviously if the tempo is up with the other anglers you can consider changing the baits more often.

As I said, Klipdrift can be difficult but is one of the most just/honest/fairest venues andf anglers working/thinking on their feet get the results. I will be fishing Klipdrift next month, so I will hopefully take heed of my own advice

Dit was n mooi warm sonskydag gewees. Ek het vroeg oggend heel regs gaan sit en gekyk waar die vis speel.

 

Ek het 12 is geland voor 12 uur almal op Banjo en Fx. Rietvleistrop met n m1 gewig en almal het uit gekom op 100m.

Het ek niks gekry nie. Vis het 150+ uit gekom en ek gooi ma net 120m :C. Ek is ma n harde gat en daar waar ek kom daar vang ek , hou nie van instap en in :kaykak nie
