Fish finder installation JHB

Hi gents

I'm looking at getting a Garmin 4dv, how difficult is it to install? Any reputable places in JHB that can do it for me? I see it gets a bit technical with the exact transducer angles, level that it sits in the water etc and admittedly I'm not the biggest DIY guy. The boat is a Glastron bowrider

Hi Ant

The installation is not that difficult. Im assuming its not a through- hull transducer. Lots of DIY videos on Youtube. The problem comes in when guys fit the bracket straight to the transom and drills holes without properly sealing the work. more guys will recommend a bracket fixed to something other than drilling the transom itself as this could cost you a lot down the line if not properly done. I'd recommend taking it to a pro or at least someone whos done this sort of thing before, especially if you dont want it looking too DIY.

Seeing as you are also in the south try these guys.
They did mine when I bought my boat.

Thanks for the feedback CJ and Tim, it is a transom transducer. Ideally I want to avoid drilling holes, Tim how did they do your setup?

I have 2 holes drilled to mount the bracket but filled it up and sealed off with marine silicone.

Only other thing you can do is look for an water proof epoxy and maybe glue the bracket on? But i think this is also very risky.

But give them a call sure they will be able to help.
