First Session since May

I decided to go fishing on the vaal river this weekend just below the barrage, the fishing was very very bad.

We arrived Friday afternoon and managed to get our lines in just before dark, the fish were going crazy all around the river and surfacing very often but not even a nibble. I stayed awake until about 3 or so but eventually decided to get some sleep.

We woke up early Saturday morning and starting trying all the normal combinations but still no luck, at about 6 pm I baited up my lines for the last time thinking to myself if anything at least I will make the best of being out and sitting by a relaxing fire.

8:30pm my one alarm starts going mad, at this stage I am so excited about having a bite I jump up off my chair dont see the log in front of me and fall flat on my face in the sand :fbash get straight back up in a second and strike the rod. The fish gave me a really nice fight and managed to land it weighed just under 4kg.::S

2:30am had another run and landed a carp of about 2 kg and then 6:00am another smaller one of about 1 kg

All in all not a bad result consider how the weekend started, what made it even better was out of 8 guys fishing I was the only person to catch anything ::S

Nice catch. The river is a bit difficult, esp during spawning. Did you target any cats? Some guys targeting only cats did well lastyear September while I blanked next to them targeting carp.

All three fish were caught using 2 aniseed soft floaties per hook which were dipped in dusk till dawn, the bomb was a 50 / 50 mix of Supercast and Jan van heever. I put a bit of dusk till dawn on the one side of the bomb and on the other side was a very strong fireball smelling syrup ( cant think of the name now )

I had one rod specifically for barbel, tried using platties and chicken livers even tried 2 platties on 1 hook but not even a nibble.
