This makes a noise when you're reeling in - almost a scraping noise as it comes through your guides. It also has more friction during casting, both in the guides and as it travels through the air. A simple analogy would be comparing a flying otter (Fireline) vs a flying poodle (Suffix performance). Must say that it lasts forever. Really tough line.
Then the other day I was wandering through one of our local fishing outlets and discovered Suffix Fuse... Hello..!!! look at this! Super bright porno lumo dayglo fluorescent iridescent orange. Now this is a 'fused' braid, like Fireline, but at R170 for 300yds! Whats the catch? I bought some immediately and spooled my small coffee. Frick! this stuff puts 10m on my casts compared to the Suffix and it's basically free. I fished heavily over December and Jan with it and so far, so good. No orange hands, super-far casts and no flying poodle aerodynamic-wind-drag stuff.
So that's my experience with braid so far... enjoy!

what is the normal price for fireline or is there a cheaper alternative that is as good as fire line in the 15lb class

Deon, firstly you cannot compare fireline with braid.
Fireline is a fused Dyneema fibre, where braid is a woven product.
Compare it with fused lines, that will be a better comparison but, Mercedes and Tata are both cars, you decide which is quality.
Saying that, on a spinning reel, you should rather look at consistency in the line as in just the price.

Dont mean to hijack the thread but is fireline really worth the price? im looking to get some more braid after loosing half my braid yesterday and i cant justify paying R450+ for 300 yards. but i was thinking of dividing it on to two reels and using 150yards on each as topshot? good or bad idea?

RandomBrad the day's of Fireline giving off it's colour on your hands are long gone back in the day when the Hell's Angels were still wearing Safari uniforms lol. It does tend to loose it's colour over time though (like all other braids). Try Fireline, it won best line of the year twice at ICAST for a reason.

Also tried and tested most of the brands and like Simen said, you can't compare fireline with anything else on the market. I have landed a King which took about 20m of my braid around a rock and not get cut off! STD braid touch a rock and it's gone.
