Will be flying to Cape in a few weeks time. Would i have any difficulty checking in my spearfishing equipment (speargun, spear, knife) as part of my luggage?

I would get written permission from someone at your airline. In theory, your gear is allowed. I have flown all over the world with spearo gear and been fine. Last year on my way to French Polynesia, I was pulled off the plane in PE airport because I had firearms on board. Long story short, it was a power tripping security officer that did not understand his job. The pilot of the plane tried to convince him that the gear was ok,
but he stuck to his guns and pulled my bag
from the plane. My holiday was saved
though, the guy made a mistake and pulled
the wrong bag off afterall and my gear flew
with me around the globe without another
hitch. Moral: get it in writing. This is Africa.

the gas in the chamber can explode in the air due to the drop in air presure. That is yhe only thing I can think of...but if the cylinder is empty I can't think that there would be a problem....don't own a gas gun so I am not shure about their logistics.
