Eersterivier this weekend

I dived Eersterivier this weekend and the water was very clear.

We went out on Friday and dived Saturday mid day, but there were no fish at all, not even in the caves.

THE REASON : The water was 11 degrees.

I took a walk to the mouth of the Eersterivier, which is the start of the Tsitskamma national park.  I had to walk through Oubos, which is closed to the public, but I went through anyway. Up to the high water mark is public domain and it was spring low. It was a remarkable experience and although I am very well travelled, the Eersterivier mouth was one of the most awesome sights I have ever seen, It is from another world. I did not take my camera, because I did not know what the conditions would be like, but I will go again, for photos.

These private Exclusive resorts really get my goat, because the average South african is excluded from seeing so many beautiful sights along our coast

Look at the good conditions at Eertserivier on Saturday.

Hi Moggy,

We launched our skis from that little beach in your first pic when we dived Eerste River.Difference was that the sea was HUGE the whole week we were there. But at least there were some fish around :fswim.

Also bugs me how pristine area like this can be closed to the general public. The slip at Skuitbaai next door charges R1000 per launch for non-residents !! Did you shoredive ?

isn't it elligal to close off access to the beach?
R1000!!! that is such a rip! I was also in the transkei 2 years ago and there was a slip there chained up which was "owned" by some skii club in Durban... I think it's unnecceptable!

I shore dived.

I have just been involved with renewing the ORV permit for Noordhoek.

This allows us to cross the beach at the club. We had to have an environmental report done and submit that with our application.

I wonder how those people get it right to launch at Eersterivier ?

The thought has crossed my mind.

We should send MCM there in December, when the Broederbond have their annual meeting and check their licences.

This is the bay to right, but it churns up with sand.

The best bet is to go in the bay on the left and swim a bit further out, because there is reef everywhere.

The really good reef is about a Kilo into the sea, wher the Knolle come up.

I dived there a good few years ago and the pinnacles offshore are amazing. Lots of great fish and even some red steenbras when the water is right. My friend used to own a dairy farm there and we used to have acess to a private slip way but unfortunately they sold the farm so no more diving there which is a big let down as the place is beautiful.
