Eagle claw circles

Hi all, I'm looking to get some circles for bronzies, I understand that the eagle claw range affer good value and quality? What sizes are recommended for sliding and where around CT can I get a hold of them?

Also do you guys use one or 2 hooks for the slide baits?

They have them at most of the tackle shops, Summerset Sport, Fishing Specialist... I used them in the past and found that they often miss a bronzie. You have to bend them off centre. I switched to the mustad circles 18 - 22/0 and they hook very well. Just sharpen them a bit more.

If you're missing fish with eagle claws you're doing it wrong. ::craz

With the eagle claws, you have to let the fish swallow the bait and turn away, Stapies I know you already know this I just saying for the others reading.

I like the 19/0 eagle claws as they have a wider gape than the 18/0. The hooks with a narrow gape i like to offset but i prefer not to use them as the chances of a hooking in the gut or anywhere other the the corner of the mouth is much higher than with a non offset circle.

Question. Why do u guys use such massive circles for bronzies ?

I'd be happy with from 10/0-14/0. Sets easier and doesn't pull easy eather. I like those 19/0eagles for rags tho.

Personal just my thinking. :fbash:fbash

I'd think the 18/0 would be fine for Bronzies and I am more than happy using them for Raggies as well. For Big Baits targeting Big Raggies I also use the 20/0 but that would be over kill for a Bronzie.
Also look at the Mustad 12/0 Demon Circle although my first experience with them is that the points chip very easily and sharpening a circle is no joke.

If I'm not mistaken Henning Venter is using the 10/0 VMC Sport Circle and it is a very nice hook and also one I'd Gladly use for Bronzie slide baits and Throwbaits.

I'm not sure where to get Eagle Claws in CT but I know that the price has gone crazy in EL. R80-R100 for 3 hooks.

Forgot to mention, 1 Hook Only!
Can't comment on hooking Bronzies with Eagle Claw circles but for Raggies they offer the best hook up ratio of any hook I've used. I've also successfully hooked small greys, Smoothounds, Spotted Gullys and a Blacktip on Eagle Claw Circles.

I love the eagle claws, the 19/0 left and the 13/0 right. I mostly use the 13/0's because they are R4 a hook whereas the 19/0's are R16 a hook. The thing I like most about the 13/0 eagle claw is it's sharp and strong, I snell 440lb steel cable with them and they handle it. I like to slightly open up my 13/0's a 1mm or 2 as I believe this helps the circle get into a the corner of a raggies mouth. But for bronzies/blacktips/greys I wouldn't bother opening them up as they have smaller lips than a rag.

DB please take note, Sensation (agents for eagle claw) had a clearing out of the old packaging for the 12/0 nd 13/0

New stock has arrived and you'll be paying closer to R50 for 3 hooks in the new packaging

Oh No:(.I dunno what I'm gonna buy now,R50 for 3 hooks is crazy and it's like R100 for the 20/0's. I guess I'm gonn have to try them 14/0 ryochi circles.

Keep buying Eagle Claws because they work is what I'll do. Haven't seen Ryoichi circles so can't comment.
I have some Mustad Demons and the points chip very easily.
I am going to be trying the VMC 10/0 Sport Circle for smaller baits and throwbaits as it looks good and is a reasonable price.
