Abu have stopped making the 800 series it's now called a Soron. When I was in C.T. over December the ESA shop in Somerset West had a 806 or 807 in stock at a good price. I have a Abu 704 and I love it, the drag is incredible. I haven't used either rod but from what I've seen they are both top class rods. For my money I would probably buy the Berkley Air.

The Shimano Sustain 6000 or 8000 would be a good option. I'm not a Shimano man myself but they do offer a wide selection of good spinning reels. You also get the Quantum Cabo, I don't think they are that easy to find though.

I bought myself the Berkley Air 9ft XH rod a few days ago, have to say it's a lovely rod, but I will always maintain it's overpriced !

I still can't imagine throwing 3oz with it, but will soon test that out and see.

The only thing I don't like about the rod (a problem with most rods), the front 3 guides ARE BLOODY TINY, I hate that !
Will have bigger ones put on soon !

Reels that's good for it
Oceano 4500
Catalina 4500
Stradic 8000
Sustain 8000
and then the expensive ones ofcourse - Saltiga and Stella

On mine I have a Oceano 4500 but I also have a Stradic 8000 (same size as 6000) that I will also use if big fish force me to.

@neilg , would you reckon a Penn Sargus 4000 will be to small for the Air 9ftXH. I got one a couple of days ago after much contemplating of which rod I should buy but Barry (Wareham) convinced me to get the XH.Unfortunately I already bought myself the Sargus 4000(loaded with 20lb crystal Fireline) and I must say it feels a little bit on the small side on the rod. Personally I think the 5000 would be a better pairing but I would sacrifice the retrieval speed of 6.2/1 to 5.7/1.I think that the extra line capacity would make up for it though? What 's your feeling...I'm kinda new to dropshotting and I'm of to Linene Island end of April and dont want to be undergunned with the GT's swimming around

I dont know the Penn reels at all so I can't tell you yes or know.

I have a Oceano 4500 on the rod and it feels very nice.
My 8000 Stradic also feels good on it aswell.

I don't have kingfish experience so can't help with that, sorry
