Blacktail, steenbra, grunter, rockcod, strepies, elf, kabeljou .. and the list goes on.

Do yourself a favour, go to the lighthouse in ST Francis one day, YOU WON'T BE SORRY.

If you get hold t-time,he can tell you a bit about the Elf.He was nailing them in St Francis last year,It was on the blue chartuese minnow, apparently they go crazy for them!!

For elf I would really not use soft lures, THEY DESTROY THEM ! 1 fish and 1 moetoe soft plastic
If you however want to then any swimming soft lure will do. Careful of being bitten off.

I target them on hard lures and ofcourse my favourite is the Purple Onda Onda, but they also take the Maria lures and ofcourse the good old silver and brass spoons.

If you encounter Elf in St Francis you might also encounter Yellowtail, when that happens, well let's just say a clean underpants and new line will probably be required.

Go a little heavier on the leader line, lots of rocks and the dirty fighters will take you straight into them

Howzit B52. Your camo worms will be good on a 1/8 ounce 1/0 or smaller jighead for big Blacktail and plenty of them. Neil's advise is good. If you're flush with cash, use plastic minnows for the shad on a 1/4 to 3/4 ounce jig. At the lighthouse, go to the point and cast Westwards. With a Westerly wind you will be able to cast pretty far with 1/4 ounce plus. I've seen 3kg+ shad/elf come out here and apparently yellowtail also frequent the area. Have fun.

What dates are you in Jeffreys Neil?
I stay in PE, so ST Francis is about 100km (give or take) away from me. Time is not always on my side (especially when the weather is good), used to go there quite often but played with really light tackle.

But this December ...

Put it this way, I WILL MAKE TIME.

Wanne go put a Berkley Air rod up against some Tail, I've heard they good, and the best way to test them is against the strong fish.

Berkley Air with a 6000 Sustain should cast my lures about 2 Nautical Miles ...

Are you gonna be there ? When ? And PM me your nr, when I go out that way we can meet up for some light tackle fun (and some lost jigheads with those damn rockcods)

Thanx for all the advice will give it a go, and report back, but still have a couple weeks to go but then is't all fish fish fish!!!.ANOTHER thing what size onda onda will work for the elf and yellow tail.

Ondas are great but expensive; the area is very rocky; Neil says there are rockcod; bucktails are cheap yet effective - try 'em.

My Ondas are about 100mm long

Elf are relatively clean fighters so with them you don't normally lose lures, but the Yellowtail, well they go as dirty as conditions allow !

Hi Neil. When will you be in St Francis? I might be visiting a mate in Jeffreys. I definately want to come and learn from the master himself.

No Master, I'm not a Jedi knight or anything, just quite passionate (about the light stuff). And ofcourse I never wrote EVERYTHING I know ...

I have no fixed dates, I work for myself so if I'm not at work I lose money, leave is a luxury that only people that work for a boss get.

So for me it's about "slipping out" when I see the chance ...

And by the sound of it I won't be doing fishing, I'll be spending my time "teaching" you VAALIES. (or lemmings as Trophy puts it)

And then all of you are gonna be INTEROGATING me about all the lures in my bag of tricks aswell ... (and I hate interogation, my wife does that - about my fishing stuff - on a daily basis)

1) You bloody well bet us Lemmings are gonna milk you for all you got
2) Show of hands please...... who's wife doesn't? :lol:1

I have just found that everything goes much better when I buy lures, burn the till slip, pay cash (No credit card or debit card evidence) and sneak the tackle into my box
