Dropshot beginner

Hi fellow sealiners

I want to start my dropshot career off this December in the Eastern Cape.

What do you suggest I look for when going to buy my basic kit?
Rod, Reel, Plastics, Line, Hooks. What brands would you suggest i look at as a novice? And what should my budget be?

Obviously i don't want to spend a whole lot of money for my first bit of kit, so i am obviously looking for great value for money. Any suggestions?

I have done quite a lot of research on the tactics and species, but i really need to know what the essentials are when starting out, without spending a fortune.:::S

Hi, I am from Namibia.  Have done quite a bit of skiboat fishing at Kenton with brother Fritz, whose got house and boat there.  McArthy jerk shad 7inch olive pearl on 1 ounce jighead has caught me a good number of big Yellowtail and cob.  Pearl also very successful.  Beachwise I can only talk of what I have experienced in Namibia:  half ounce to 1 ounce jighead, 5/0 hook, 5 inch jerk shad or pedal tail in chartreuse pearl, pink and/or pearl seems best for cob.  Berkley sandworm bloodred in 2 inch seems good for blacktail and other rock species.  Fish as light a jighead as possible.  Rod:  8 to 9 foot, Daiwa Exceller, med or med/heavy is good choice but guides need replacing soon.  Cheaper alternative - Shimano Vengeance 8 ft.  Reel:  Shimano Soltace in 2500 or 4000 good value for money.  Braid:  Suffix 832, 20 lbs, or Powerpro 14 or 20 lbs good choice.
