Drop shot in Mozambique - Inhambane - Flamingo Bay

Hi guys, need some help. Going to Mozambique, to a little place called Flamingo Bay on the Inhambane island for my honeymoon later this month. Going to be doing a little drop shot fishing there when not hanging out with the wife to be "Permission to fish has been granted".

I need to know if anyone has been to Flamingo Bay / Barra Lodge and if anyone has successfully caught anything, what was caught and what sort of rig they used. Im going with very light tackle just to have some fun im going to be going out in a kyack in the estuary as well. Ive heard that when the tide comes in some fish come with it. Please give any advise on the area and fishing if anyone has any details that would be great.

Hi Lee,

I had a very bad experience at the place where you are going. Flamingo bay/Barra. We were there for three weeks in december. We caught a total of 4 Kingies for the entire stay. THATS ALL!! Even on the reefs we didn't caught a thing. the Fish finder event didn't spot any fish.The lakes are beautiful, but dead!! the locals is killing that place. We one day saw the locals caught a huge sand shark in their nets. They killed it on the spot. Every thing they caught, they kept. That place wont ever see me again. For the matter of fact Mosambique wont see me again. If I want to caught fish on dropshot, I will rather go to Sodwana Bay. I love that place!!

I was there in 2008 and unfortunately my experience was the same. I tried to spearfish something on the reefs from the lighthouse to the lodge in the area, but everything was very dead. Pitty, as it is beautiful there...

hey lee,
might be a little late on your topic. If you travel by bakkie there might be some fun to be had, the barra region is fairly dead due to lack of structure, if you go to the lighthouse point some fish is possible a caught a few wave garrick an lost a decent greenspot up close! Early mornings and late afternoon on the push of the tide with powerminnows did the job. The best dropshotting was @ tofu. On light tackle you only get into small kingies. Strictly low tide! Go about an hour before low up to an hour after and wear decent shoes!!! You will find a very rough rocky point to you left if you drive up to the dead end. There is also a statue of some kind there. Climb down the rocks onto the low tide ledge, some nice fun to be had with the young kingies working those ledges on dropshot, power minnows and nuclear chicken did the job!
