Hi All

Please could you give me some advise as to where would be a good place to dropshot in Umdeloti as well as what will work there and what fish we can expect.

Ill be down there from the 29 May till the 19 June.

Thanks in advance.:fishn

I've seen the guys dropshotting off the rocks in front of the lifeguard  tower. its safe at low tide but watch as the tide starts pushing. you can try a lot of soft bait like minnows & jerk shad for gt & predator fish. then to the left of there +- 30m you can also fish of the shelf into the deep, but I think during the day it's a bathing area.

Then you can go further left & fish of the rocks with camo worm & crustacians, etc & you can get some nice rock fish there.

Hope this helps a bit.

Bruce.

Hi CK,

best places at Umdloti is way south, just past the last house. Lots of gullies and channels here. You have to walk a bit to get there as there's no parking available.

Also, if you go north at the last parking bay is also a good spot.

From the launch site to the last house on the south stretch is a no fishing zone. As pershond said, from there further south you have miles of rock and gully's, all the way to Umhlanga river mouth (if you are not afraid of the walk).

Unfortunately the whole area is fished quite extensively, but you will get some good blacktail and the odd juvenile kingy.

To be honest I dive it for crayfish more than I fish it, but as my best mate lives on south coast road we quite often take the kids for a fish there. Camo worms are deadly for those little kolsterte.

As a club we sometimes fish it for greysharks, but then in the area in front of the traffic circle. The odd shad also comes out from the rocks at the chain pools.

A little known spot is a tiny piece of reef just to the right of the traffic circle, you can see some rocks sticking out in the shore break at an extreme low tide. It often holds some fish ideal for drop shot.

Also take a walk from the northern most parking lot to the Umdloti river mouth, lots of broken reef and I once caught a catface rockcod on dropshot there!
