I was supposed to go to Struisbaai for some R&S fishing - al was planned but due to a freind of mine hurting himself after he fell from a ladder - I had to postpone on the Struisbaai trip - maybe another time. Further, we had to choose a venue close to were we live - Donaldson Dam 50min from PTA.
Another fantastic session, and was even more rewarding as I improved my PB again AND the Springboks won the final !!
We arrived at Donaldson on Friday 19 October (very late at night !) - Rain, Hail, Thunder and lightning could not stop us from going !
We fished bottom lake and booked swim 23. The facilities is not much to write about, but we were not there for the comforts but for the fish.
We had no time for any sort of preperation and the main prep being the groundbait that we will be using. The groundbait consisted of Maize, Hemp Seed, Maple Peas, Chick Peas and very few mini Tigernuts.
At the dam the first thing we had to do was to find any type of gravel bar. This was found at the inlet by the river and streched about 30 meters from the opposite bank all they way to the right side of the dam. The only way to fish these spots was by either a inflatable / kanoe or bait boat.
Lines were in and so the waiting started.
Rod 1: Jumbo Tigernut on the hair
Rod 2: Tiger and Hemp Boilie 20mm on hair
Rod 3: Pip / Maple / pip on hair
Most fish were caught on the pip/maple/pip combo but the big fish (and my new PB) was caught on the Jumbo Tigernuts. A few fish came out on the Boilies.
Report:
13 runs 8 fish banked: Kevin 1, Derek 1 and myself 6
Here are the pic's of the fish I landed:
