Diving Tofo

Heading up mid April for 2 weeks, have done a fair amount of research and got some help from chaps on the forum but still have a few questions if some of the Moz vets are able to help as we are getting conflicting info.

 - Are all the licences required for spearing from a boat available in Inhambane and a price estimate as we have heard R1000 + ? (and an address for the Maritimo office if someone has it ?)

 - Is it a free for all launch or are there designated beaches/areas ? We will be staying in a cottage just off the main Tofo beach.

 - A few tips to beat the ever present friendly traffers en route ? (have done Bilene before , stuck well below speed limit and still had my licence "confiscated" for a cash reward)

 Thanks.

Hiya,

The Maritimo office is off Continuadores Avenue in Inhambane GPS coordinates: Lat:  23°51'45.28"S Long: 35°23'2.58"E

It doesn’t really look like a government building more like a house, but just walk in and ask they will direct you the the correct office. We spoke to a very helpful gent called Sinai. Remember to take your passports. Not sure about the boat price but the spearfishing licence on its own work out to about R450 per person.

When we where there last year September, the Maritimo officer that serviced Tofo was Bernardo. His number is +258 8440 63568. Don't know if the number or the person is still valid but you can try and contact him directly to set up a meeting in Tofo.

We didn’t take a boat up ourselves so not 100% around launching costs but from the looks of it there is very little regulation and the guys where launching from the main beach as they pleased. The vehicle entrance to the main beach is, if facing the sea, just to the left of the Tofo market. You'll see all the dive operators launching here.

If have any questions you can also speak to to the good people at Liquid Adventures.
Paul, the owner, is also a spearo and will be able to help with some info. His contact no +258 8425 58312.

Hope you have good trip :wfish
