DECENT quality fishing tackle

So ive noticed a trend...there has been a major change in the tackle being sold at our local tackle shops, it seems there is in influx of local brands, and cheaper international brands of less quality.

Ive been trying to look for decent quality things like unhooking matts and landing nets, and all i am finding is DOCKS or JACKEL or SENSATION and to top it off they are not even cheap.

I know the rand is not at its best level but surely we can still get top brand names like FOX and NASH at decent prices in South Africa or are we stuck....

Best bet is online with the likes of Henkor and possibly Tackle Tart...The later don't seem to have a lot available...

Weak Rand = more costly imports. Retailers therefore have to compromise on quality in order to keep prices "reasonable".

I must also admit that not all the local stuff is rubbish... I have recently handed my 4x Sensation alarms over to my brother...they lasted my nearly 4 years and has never dropped a bite...been through numerous thunderstorms...had spiders make nests inside and nada, still 100%

Let me ask - Are we 'Brand' driven that every piece of tackle item must be an import of either Fox - Nash etc... ?

True that the carpers among us do prefer it that way - However where I will never compromise on are rods/terminal tackle/alarms & rod support/luggage/brolly or bivvy.

But a landing net/unhooking mate ? mmmmm I know I know the rand is k@k now but you can 'save a little dosh' on these 2 simple items or is it: "What's teh guys gonna think if I come with a Sensation net/mat?" LOL !!!!

Who has had the agency's for nash, korda and fox ect? If memory serves me its the same guys importing all the "local" brands now. Just remember that the "weak" rand you are talking about also affects the imports of the "local" brands. last time I checked the weakening rand did not affect the "local" brands due to the suppliers having a big enough margin to accommodate the ROE losses.

True Everyone Has valid points here, and agree get a local brand unhooking matt but my point was local brand unhooking matt I saw today for R950 (really crazy?)
