f**&^%R$&(((ck !!!!!!!
that means the suffix is MUCH thicker than the Whiplash, which means less backing on my reel !
I thought it was about the same.

The above test are done in a lab.I do not claim the results are accurate or reflect the actual ability of the line.

i have two daiwa crossfires...they are the model below the regal....uhm ya i cant expect any more from them because they did only cost me 240 rand each...but they do the job...

i took the anti reverse select system out of both of these reels....i never ever turn it off so i got rid of that complicated mechanism....sealed off the two open ports and voila...

lets just say im going exceller next time...

I have a shimano slade 2500 and a shimano nexave rod.

You can probably get the combo for under R300

I have used mine for two years now and never had a problem

Dingleberry is spot on with the Regal. I have used mine to catch a lot of carp and barbel and it worked beautifully, nice and smooth. First time I took to Moz for catching halfbeaks for bait, one of my mates submerged the reel in the water. That was the end of it even after rinsing it in fresh water (should have stripped it) The next day the reel turned very rough, all the bearings were knackered. I would recommend it for fresh water, but not in the salt.

Yeh, the stradic is awesome. I have the Shimano Symetre. Find that Shimano seems to have less probs if they get wet. Must be why they are rated the no 1 reel manufacturer in the world. :first

I am on my second daiwa crossfire. Lost the first one to the salt in Sodwana. This time I pumped it full of red rubber grease even before putting line on it. Seems to be holding out for now but BigMatt i am with you, Next time its an exeller.

Last year I was never swearing, cursing or bad mouthing anyone. I helped a lot of people where I could and tried not to kick the dog or yell at the wife( or be yelled at). Tell me zoemdoef, what more must I do this year to be in Santa's good book like you?:cry1

I just returned from my trip in Kosi bay.
I used my penn sargus SG 400 reel and my girl friend used a Daiwa Regal 2500-5IA. Both of these reels were new.

Both of these reels were exposed to more or less the same amount of fishing, sand and salt.

As I'm writing this these reels are laying next to me on the floor as I'm bussy servicing them. The Penn Sargus required virtually no servicing, no evidence of any salt or sand entering the reel. I basically just rinsed it of properly with fresh water and gave it some oil. I am very impressed with my sargus.

The daiwa Regal on the other hand. I battled for nearly an hour and a half to get all the sand and stuff out. Lots of water, lots of benzine and plenty of grease before I could get the handle of the reel to turn again.
