Dear Santa

So I've decided to come visit the in laws for Christmas here in Cape Town and only 2 days since I last fished I'm already having withdrawal symptoms.
So my wish list is as follow,

Dear Santa,
I've been a really good boy all year and only wish for one thing this christmas, if any of the sealine members in the cape would be so kind as to have me join them on board their boat heading out in search of those big gas bottles. As we are limited to the babies here on the east coast it's always been a dream to buckle with a 80 kg plus daddy.
Would be more the willing to help pay the fuel bill and bait bill.

I'm sure you can make a plan Santa,

Regards,
Corné

Wow so many views at the post and no one keen to help a fellow sealiner.

Guys I don't want a free ride I'm willing to help pay towards the operating costs, I'm just not prepared to pay a price catered towards the EU market.

Hi,
Try a charter company maybe? There is a few of them around, but I don't think any of them are Sealine members.

Hi Bennie,

I had a look at a few charters already and 1 you either have to charter a boat avarege R10k-R15k or 2 jump on board if there is a spot at R3k-R5k.

I'm mean really, the average South African does not have that kind of money to just throw around.

I was hoping that a local might need an extra crew member and I can tag along and help pay for fuel and and.

Surely 5 guys on a boat can't use R7500 worth of fuel and charter pockets R7500 at R3000 per person. I mean really, then I need to change my career choice.

Any way Thanx for the info Bennie

Howzit Sidney,

I replied to your pm, Thanx a mil.
Ya when you as keen a fisherman as I am and you don't wet a line at least once a week then the kop starts to mess up stairs.
We leave on the 3d again so up until the 2nd I'm free to jump aboard.

Will stay in touch

I don't think that unreasonable...

You are assuming they go out every day and make that kind of money. What about when the weather is poor and they can't get out for weeks? Then when the weather improves they don't necessary get to charter every day. You may think they are just milking it but who will put food on the table when the sea is on it's head? Most of these guys are struggling!

December/January the yellowfin go a little scares, occasionally you can pick up YFT and LF around Cape Point this time of year, only issue is the wind and water temp at the moment is not playing game.

not unreasonable, if i ran a charter id charge 20k a day. It costs you R3000- 6000 a day in just running costs (bait and fuel), now think of gillie, maintenance, etc. And than there are only 20-40 days you could run to the deep if you can fish 365 days a yr!. Cape charter companies dont do it for the money, they love fishing! Its def one of the hardest places to run a charter business in the WORLD!

You can come to the cape for a month, be free to fish everyday and not get to sea once. That's why a big cape yellowfin is such a amazing feat, it f%&king hard for all the elements to line up!

hopefully you get a break and a ride in jan, than hope the fish are there.

Ok so some of the charters must think this dude is f&@king nuts, well for the record I am a bit :fbash

Jokes aside, in hindsight I understand why the steep prices but I just think that the average SA fisherman will never be able to experience that feeling of a 80 kg plus Tuna at the end of his line having to pay in excess of R3000 for a trip.

Any way a fellow sealiner has offered for me to jumb board if the weather permits before me leaving back home in hunt of the Dorries and Cuta ::S

Thanx to those guys who replied and tried to help and sorry for dissing the charters you guys do a great job in promoting our sport.

Happy New Year to all and many tight lines and screaming reels for 2013

Hey Sparky69, I think most of the offshore guys use a local CT fishing forum so most of your views might not have been by CT guys. Hope you got out there!
