Couple of nice Rietvlei Dam bass

Here are a couple of nice chunky bass that I caught this past Saturday from Rietvlei.

Water level was very low so all the grass and green algae slime was compressed into shallower water, which made for challenging fishing.

First one weighed in at 1.97kg

Another shot of same fish.

Second one 1.21kg

3rd 1.385kg

4th 1.10kg

5th 1.26kg

This gave me a 5 fish bag of almost 7kg/15lb (6.925kg) ... not bad for fishing from the bank.

Late afternoon I caught loads of these smaller-sized bass that were hitting lures like crazy.

I stopped counting after 11 of them.

All fish were responsibly weighed and released without being out of the water for more than a couple of seconds.

Day turned out great in the end.

Got one last week Monday when I did a hour session after work.

Got some 7 inch flukes I can't wait to try this week.

Has anybody had some success on top-water lures??

Caught a few during an afternoon session about 3 weeks ago on flukes. 2 Nice ones of about 1.5kg and a bunch of smaller ones - got no action on topwater despite some activity on the surface.

Get most of my late afternoon action 16:00-18:00 on a semi-topwater retrieve of fluke.

Skip on top and kill and repeat ...

About 50/50 between them taking the lure on top and on the kill as it sinks slowly.
